It’s Not Your Fault

On October 9, 2012 by Francesca

Hello I’m BAAAACCCKKK…. well I really never left, just “life happened” as my friend Tracey would say.  Now back to that OMG fashion thought I wrote so many, many months ago.

“Have you ever gone into a dressing room and tried on an outfit that you thought would look good, but when you looked in the mirror you went OMG this does not look good. 🙁  Then you return with item number 2 and the response is OMG this really doesn’t look good. 🙁 🙁 Item number 3 is now on and the voice in your head says OMG this is………………..  🙁 🙁 🙁 Well I have a secret to tell you, it is not your fault…………………”

Why is it not your fault?

Surprisingly it is the first answer that comes into your head, which is “The clothes don’t fit.”  The reason they do not fit is because you do not fit into that particular manufacturer’s basic body block.  Manufactures have to decide what shape their basic medium is.  Now-a-days, that medium could be a 24” waistline or a 28” waistline.  Maybe they are working with a non athletic build and the armholes are narrower and sleeves are slimmer.  Sometimes manufacturers shave off a ½’” to save fabric, which when multiplied by the number of pieces can save a lot of money. The garment still looks the same but the fit may be different. Today the clothing market is so global and peoples’ shapes are so diverse, it is not a surprise that there are times that the clothes just don’t fit.

So it is not your fault.  The good news is that the clothes which drew you into that dressing room, tell you who you are and how you want to express and see yourself, which is what fashion is truly about.

The next time you go into a dressing room and the clothes don’t look good.  You can stop the “Blame Game,” and say “The clothes don’t look good on me because they just don’t fit.”

And if you want clothing that does fit your unique body shape, check out my Francesca oh 5 Element Fashion on-line Boutique and contact me.  I would love to work with you since I specialize in fit.

  • Good to know. Thank you!

  • You said it so well Francesca! We should stop the nonsense about blaming our own bodies when clothes don’t fit. Instead of saying “I don’t look good” we should say “This outfit doesn’t look good on me.” Just keep trying on something else again & again till you find the awesome one. Buy it or not doesn’t matter as much as feeling good about yourself. And I do enjoy the little pick-me-up I give myself. Smiles 🙂
